Today, our class had a go at evaluating in reading. We looked at the reasoning given for why we shouldn't reward recycling and discussed if the reasoning was logical.

Today we revisited our tenths place value and the class did a wonderful job at adding decimal numbers. We learned about a new reading skill - evaluating. We know that we need to look at gaps in reasoning before coming up with our own viewpoint.

Following our decimals maths number talks last week, we revisited our place value understanding of tenths and hundredths. We know that ten tenths make up one whole, so the place value shifts to the left because it becomes ten times bigger.

Today we learned about how tides occur. We also read about the proposal of a tidal gate at Pahurehure estuary and discussed whether it was a good idea.

Using ideas from our korero from yesterday, our class created an explanation text dicussing how bins can improve the Pahurehure inlet. We learned that we can ask 'how? why? what?' questions to help expand our ideas.

Today, our class read about how marine and land litter can affect our environment. We summarized the key points in the article as a class. Lots of maths thinking was shown in our Number Talks too!

Welcome to Term 4 everyone! We are starting off a new topic looking at ways to improve our school and local communities through STEAM. We read an article about a waterway clean up project at the Papakura Stream and our class had lots of discussions afterward.
